Supplement (technology)

An insert or shim , is a generally disk-shaped component that in the mechanical engineering in the installation is used to manufacturing tolerances compensate. For this purpose, side dishes of various thicknesses are usually available or several thin side dishes can be placed on top of each other.

By using inserts, you can do without a high level of manufacturing accuracy of the individual parts, but the effort involved in assembly is higher, since the correct thickness of the insert must be determined.
