Animated (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Animated is a technical term in heraldry .

This term describes a dolphin depiction in the heraldic shield or heraldic field when the mouth is closed, but the eyes, ears and the "beard and comb" are shown in a different color. If the heraldic animal is shown in one color, the heraldist speaks of stale .

In the case of other heraldic animals, the different colors of the eyes are sufficient to describe the animal as animate.
