from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An attendant midwife is a self-employed (freelance) midwife who has signed an occupational agreement with one or more maternity clinics or who works in a hospital with a so-called attendant system.

The latter usually work in shifts in the delivery room , maternity ward and / or children's room in a clinic, similar to employed midwives.

The former offer pregnant women childbirth support from start to finish in the clinic where they are contractually allowed to work. This usually requires early registration during pregnancy , as the demand is high and a relationship of trust between the midwife and the pregnant woman should also develop.

Midwives services are services of the health insurance for the duration call a few weeks around the date of delivery , however, a so-called on-call fee is payable in the rule that varies regionally high.
