VT4 was a Flemish private television broadcaster and belonged to the ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG broadcasting group until June 7, 2011 . Since June 8, 2011, the station has been in the hands of Sanoma Media, Corelio NV and Waterman & Waterman CVA. Since September 17, 2012 the station has been called "Vier".

The station has been broadcasting since February 1, 1995. Because originally there was no Belgian broadcasting license, it was initially broadcast from London . VT4 now broadcasts legally from Zaventem in Belgium and can be received in the cable network of Brussels and Flanders , via the satellite TV Vlaanderen and the DSL-based BELGACOM TV.

Initially, the station aimed at an adult audience, which, however, proved to be unsuccessful. The station then adapted its program schedule to a more youthful target group . This approach with the successful American TV programs like The Simpsons or Friends , which are broadcast with Dutch subtitles , showed greater economic success. The station now has a market share of more than 7%.

VT4 is increasingly broadcasting its own productions again. These are mainly reality formats, such as De jeugd van tegenwoordig , in which Flemish teenagers have to make a “journey through time” to a boarding school in the 1950s.

VT4 also sees itself as the broadcaster with the best range of feature films of all Flemish free TV channels.

The offshoot VIJFtv has existed since the end of 2004, with series such as Grey's Anatomy , Brothers & Sisters and Sex and the City aimed more at a female audience. As a trick, the station was the very first to broadcast a football game that was eagerly awaited in Belgium. The aim was to get the men in the household to tune in to VIJFtv on TV.
