The Bellevue Baptist Church ( English Bellevue Baptist Church ) is a large Southern Baptist megachurch in Memphis in the US state of Tennessee .

history

The Bellevue Baptist Church was built in 1903 as a single-nave stone mission chapel on the outskirts of Memphis at the corner of Bellevue and Erskine Avenue. The first service took place on July 12, 1903 with the first pastor, Dr. Henry Hurt instead. 32 founding members signed the official charter on August 9, 1903. In the 1950s , the church was converted and expanded with 3000 seats and the first air-conditioned church in Memphis. In 1989 the building was rebuilt at a new location (2000 Appling Road) with 7,000 seats on a 1.6 km² site. The location of the building near Interstate 40 is indicated by three crosses (45.75 m and two by 36.50 m).
