Berenice (rocket)

Berenice was the name of a four-stage French experimental rocket used between 1962 and 1966 . The Berenice was 13.25 m long, had a diameter of 0.56 m and weighed 3340 kg at the start. The launch thrust of the Berenice, which could carry a payload of 40 kg to a height of 1000 km, was 170 kN. The first stage of the Berenice had four stabilizing rockets of the type SEPR P167 with 34 kN thrust as a special feature . The first stage was the Stromboli SEPR 739 , the second the SEPR 740 , the third the Tramontane and the fourth the Melanie . The Melanie has a vacuum thrust of 11.10 kN, a burn time of 4 seconds, a diameter of 22 cm and a length of 2.95 m. The empty weight of Melanie was 10 kg, the fuel weight 32 kg.

The namesake is the constellation " Hair of Berenike ".
