Berlin transit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berliner Durchreise is a fashion fair in Berlin .

It traces its tradition back to traveling cloth merchants in the 19th century, making it the oldest fashion fair in the world. After the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, Berlin was the leading fashion center, but it was not until 1918 that the "Berlin Fashion Weeks", held in February and August, were established.

The first official "transit" took place in 1950 in various locations throughout Berlin. The construction of the wall hindered the fair from 1961 and the Düsseldorf exhibition center gained in importance. A revival began in 1982 under the name "interchic", and since 1987 the fair has been taking place under the name "Durchreise" at the Ullsteinhaus location , where various fashion companies have their permanent offices.
