history

Founding share of the Berlin Life Insurance Company from September 1, 1836

With the approval of the Prussian King, the Berlinische Lebens-Versicherungs Gesellschaft was founded as a stock corporation in Berlin in 1836 with a significant participation by Heinrich Ludwig Lobeck , making it the first life insurance company in Prussia and the second company of its kind in Germany. Lobeck oriented himself on English models. With his advance he met the goodwill of the government. The Berlinische Renten- und Kapitals-Versicherungs-Bank was associated with the insurance company since 1844. This was dissolved in 1889. The insurance merged with the Preussische Lebensversicherungs AG in 1922.

The new company headquarters at the corner of Lietzenburger Strasse 51 and Rankestrasse, built in 1951/1952 by Curt Hans Fritzsche in the style of the office building architecture of the 1920s, is now a listed building . It is used for other commercial purposes.

In 1994 Hamburger Lebensversicherung AG was acquired and in 1998 it was taken over by Delta Lloyd NV in Amsterdam. In 2006 the name was changed to Delta Lloyd Lebensversicherung AG.

In October 2015, Athene Holding announced the acquisition of the company, and in November 2015 it was renamed "Athene Lebensversicherung".

In July 2018, the company was spun off from Athene Holding and renamed Athora Lebensversicherung and integrated into the European Athora Group.
