history

Company headquarters in Amsterdam

The company went back to the insurer Hollandsche Societeit van Levensverzekeringen , founded in 1807 , which merged with Amsterdamsche Maatschappij van Levensverzekeringen in 1967 to form the insurer Delta . Just two years later, the merger with NedLloyd to Delta Lloyd took place .

1973 the British insurance group Commercial Union took over the majority of shares in the insurance group. In 1999, Delta Lloyd merged with the insurance business of Nuts OHRA to become Delta Lloyd Nuts OHRA . In 2002 the company was renamed Delta Lloyd Groep , but insurance products continued to be sold under the “delta lloyd” and “OHRA” brands. In 2003 Delta Lloyd concluded a joint venture with ABN Amro , under the name ABN AMRO Verzekeringen , insurance companies have since been sold through the bank counters of the credit institute.

In 2009, Aviva, as the successor to Commercial Union, floated part of its shares on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange , but still remained majority shareholder with 53%. In the following years, the British company gradually reduced its stake; in January 2013 the last 19.4% stake was sold. After Delta Lloyd had reached a market capitalization of over 4 billion euros at the end of February 2014 , the share previously listed in the AMX index moved up to the AEX index one month later . In March 2016, however, the share was removed from the index after massive losses in value within twelve months and a correspondingly lower market capitalization.

In June 2017, Delta Lloyd was taken over by the Dutch NN Group for 2.5 billion euros.
