Bernhard E. Bürdek

Bernhard E. Bürdek (* 1947 ) is a German design theorist and consultant.

Life

Bürdek studied from 1967 to 1968 at the Ulm School of Design, 1969 at the Staatliche Werkkunstschule Kassel and from 1969 to 1971 at the Institute for Environmental Planning at the University of Stuttgart. From 1971 to 1972 he studied business administration and economics at the University of Stuttgart . In 1972 he became a lecturer at the HfG Offenbach and was appointed professor there in 1979. a. in Brazil, China, Mexico and Taiwan. In 2012 he received his doctorate summa cum laude from the University of Applied Arts Vienna. phil. PhD. He has been retired since 2013.

Bürdek's work is related to the expanded functionalism in the tradition of the Ulm School . He contributed to the development of the Offenbach theory of product language , which is now known worldwide as product semantics .

He became internationally known primarily for the standard work Design, which was written in numerous languages . History, theory and practice of product design .

The title of his dissertation is: "Design on the way to a discipline" (Hamburg 2012)

In addition to general or theoretical works, he also wrote special publications, for example for Franz Schneider Brakel, Form Verlag, Suhrkamp and Birkhäuser Verlag.
