Snakkerdu Densk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Snakkerdu Densk was an independent pop band from Vienna that existed from 1991 to approx. 2001 . It consisted of the Austrians Bernhard Schnur (guitar, vocals), Michael Moser (bass) and Dominik Dusek (drums).

Bernhard Schnur's distinctive voice, reminiscent of John Lennon, and her fine, catchy pop melodies as well as her experimental and unusual arrangements were characteristic of the music of Snakkerdu Densk. Some of the songs were based on instrumental loops or simply short sound miniatures. In addition to guitar, bass and drums, the band also used the saxophone, harmonica, organ, melodica, drum box and various small instruments such as jew's harp and tin cans. After Dominik Dusek moved from Vienna to Winterthur (Switzerland) in 1999, Schnur and Moser tried to work with several drummers, but without finding a permanent replacement.

Snakkerdu Densk played concerts in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Croatia. They also put together an "unplugged" program with folk-psychedelic versions of their songs and a few cover versions, and twice played an improv live set that oscillated between techno and free jazz under the name Swap Swaap Tundra .

Dominik Dusek released two solo albums as Bottervogel in the late 1990s . Bernhard Schnur has been performing in Austria since 2005, but also in other European countries with solo programs or as Bernhard Schnur & Band . In October 2012 Snakkerdu Densk played a short reunion concert as part of the CD presentation of Bernhard Schnur's third solo album YOL in Vienna's WUK .
