Berni Schiefer is an IBM Fellow at International Business Machines .

Berni Schiefer and his team conduct research at the IBM Spark Technology Center in San Francisco. His global team focuses on the topics of performance and scalability in the area of databases and analytics. His research focuses on big data technologies including Spark, BigInsights, Big SQL, dashDB, DB2 PureScale and DB2 with BLU Acceleration. Schiefer started at IBM Canada in 1985. Before that, he studied Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2017 he received the Alumni of Influence Award.
