The Bernische Pensionskasse (BPK), based in Bern, is an independent Swiss pension fund . It insures the state staff of the Canton of Bern and the employees of its affiliated employers within the framework of the 2nd pillar .

The Bernische Pensionskasse goes back to the decree passed in January 1919 by the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern on the salaries of civil servants and employees of the state administration. This also provided for the creation of a pension fund. The further provisions of the salary decree finally led to the establishment of the auxiliary fund for civil servants, salaried employees and workers in the state administration at the beginning of 1921. Thereafter, the decree was subjected to a total revision several times and finally replaced in 1994 by the law on the Bernese pension fund (BPKG).

Today the Bernische Pensionskasse is an institution under public law with its own legal personality . At the end of 2014, in addition to the Canton of Bern, other employers and a total of 35,071 actively insured persons and 13,853 pensioners were affiliated with it. The total assets amounted to 11.7 billion Swiss francs.

Legal bases

The legal basis is formed by the Federal Act on Occupational Old-Age, Survivors 'and Disability Pension Plans (BVG) , the Federal Act on Freedom of Movement in Occupational Old-Age, Survivors' and Disability Pension Plans (Freedom of Movement Act, FZG) , the associated ordinances and the Bernische Act Pension Fund (BPKG) . The legal basis also includes the regulations of the Bernese Pension Fund.

organization

The highest management body of the Bernese Pension Fund is the administrative commission. This is composed equally of five employer and employee representatives and half is elected by the government council of the canton of Bern and half by the 150-member assembly of delegates for four years. The day-to-day operations are managed by the managing director.
