Calming pot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A calming pot (also known as a swirl tank or surge tank) is a cup-shaped container arranged in the fuel tank of a vehicle , which ensures that the vehicle is supplied with fuel even on uneven roads and in curves.

functionality

The swirl pot, which is attached in the center of the tank, is a cup attached to the bottom of the tank, from the center of which the fuel is sucked to the engine. When the level is high, the fuel flows over the rim of the cup, when the level is low, it flows through a small opening in the bottom of the cup or through the return of the fuel pump into the container. When cornering, when accelerating or braking, the fuel flows into the corresponding side of the tank, which would lead to an interruption of the fuel supply to the engine at low levels. During such a maneuver, however, the fuel can only slowly flow out of the rolling container, so that the fuel supply to the engine is ensured for a certain time.
