Special security measure

Special security measures is a legal term from the Prison Act (StVollzG) of the Federal Republic of Germany. Such measures are ordered against prisoners if, due to their behavior or their psychological condition, there is an increased risk of escape or the risk of violence against people or property or the risk of suicide or self-harm .

Special security measures are standardized in § 88 StVollzG. The following security measures are permitted:

1. the withdrawal or withholding of objects,
2. observation at night,
3. segregation from other prisoners,
4. the withdrawal or the restriction of the stay in the open air,
5. Placement in a specially secured detention room without dangerous objects and
6. the bondage .

The facility manager is responsible for ordering special security measures in accordance with Section 91 of the StVollzG.
