Concrete glass is a special type of glass that is required for the manufacture of glass reinforced concrete .

The pressed glass body is predominantly square or round and has a solid shape or is open on one side. Concrete glass is produced in a pressing process in one piece or from two parts firmly joined by melting . Concrete glasses create a translucent finish in the outdoor area and are usually not used as a statically contributing factor.

The concrete glass technology was mainly used in the construction of sacred buildings in the 1950s and 1960s worldwide.

The areas of application, formats and designs of concrete glasses are regulated in DIN EN 1051 .

These include u. a .:

  • Components made of reinforced glass concrete with a maximum live load of 5.0 kN / m².
  • Spatial supporting structures according to DIN 1045 (shells and folded structures ) only with cylindrical concrete glass R 117 extending over the entire thickness.
    • in special cases (e.g. drivable components) only with concrete glasses B 117, R 117 and B 1580.
