The directory is operated by ADFC Bett + Bike Service GmbH, based in Berlin.

history

On the basis of a catalog of criteria developed since 1993 by founder Wolfgang Reiche together with the Tourism Committee, the first directory of bicycle-friendly restaurants was presented at the International Tourism Exchange in Berlin in 1995, at that time under the name Rad & Bett . The first edition of the printed directory contained 216 entries.

Criteria and Categories

Using fixed evaluation criteria, guest establishments are evaluated and certified with regard to their suitability as bicycle-friendly accommodation. These criteria include:

  • Single nights can be booked
  • Drying facility for wet cycling clothing
  • Breakfast offer
  • Information about the surrounding area
  • Tool for minor repairs

A further categorization can be made using additional criteria relating to the type and location of the accommodation:

  • Bed + bike accommodation
  • Bed + Bike Camping
  • Bed + bike holiday apartment
  • Bed + bike e-bike
  • Bed + Bike City

The certification is chargeable for companies and is valid for two years. Certified businesses are listed in printed regional directories as well as via the online portal bettundbike and can be found by cyclists on the go via a mobile app.
