The St. Annae et Katharinae rifle brotherhood , also known as the Beyenburger brotherhood for short , is the oldest rifle brotherhood in the Bergisches Land . It has been located in today's Wuppertal district of Beyenburg since the late Middle Ages .
The brotherhood was first mentioned in a document in 1383, but it is probably older. In his book “ Beyenburg-Steinhaus ” (1883) the pastor Joseph Koch writes that it was mentioned as early as 1366 in another document. This document was lost during the Nazi era , as was the document on which the year 1383 is documented, but a copy of which has been preserved. Most of the other traditions from the Middle Ages were destroyed in a fire on November 30, 1735.
