Bharata (tribe)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bharata were one of about thirty Indo-Aryan tribes of the Punjab in Rigvedic times . Under their king Sudas (a) they won the epic battle of the Ten Kings against the Puru (i.e. their relatives) and other Indo-Aryan tribes, but also non-Aryan Dasyu , which secured them dominance in the Punjab for some time (Rigveda VII, 18). Apparently a period of political concentration began here among the semi-nomadic Indo-Aryans, which then continued under the Kuru-Panchala .
