The library of the Ateneo Veneto in Venice , which has existed since 1812, received its oldest holdings from the Accademia Veneta Letteraria , the Veneta Società di Medicina and the Accademia dei Filareti , which were merged with the Napoleonic decree of December 25, 1810. Today the library contains around 50,000 works, including around 16,000 on the subject of Venice. The library holds around 200 current journals , a total of 680 periodicals. Lending is only available to the soci , but the reading room is open to the public.

At first there was only a Gabinetto di lettura , a reading room, from 1820. It was not until 1895 that the institution, under its President Paulo Fambri, became a library, which began lending in 1920. The library has received many book foundations, such as from Franceschinis-Sacerdoti, Occioni-Bonaffons, Cipollato, Bosisio, Marconi or the Associazione Scrittori Veneti . Most of them were works from the 19th century from the fields of law, history and the humanities. Recently, the Del Torre collection was added, offering numerous works from agricultural and social history, but also from fiscal and church history .
