Bilal Ag Acherif
Bilal Ag Acherif (* 1977 ) is General Secretary of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad ( MNLA ) in Mali . Since April 6, 2012, the MNLA has regarded him as the “President” of the “Azawad” state, which is not recognized under international law.
On June 26, 2012, he was injured in clashes between MNLA fighters and the Islamist movement for unity and jihad in West Africa . According to an MNLA spokesman, he was transported to Burkina Faso for medical treatment .
