The projector room is the room in the cinema in which the film projectors and all associated technology (sound system, etc.) are located.

From a historical point of view, this room was fire-proof and explosion-proof due to the nitrate film used earlier . It was forbidden to set up the projectors in the auditorium after a severe initial fire. Since the introduction of the safety film ( acetate film ) around 1965, the fire protection requirements with regard to explosion protection have been relaxed as far as possible. Nevertheless, to this day the projector room must not have a direct connection to the audience area.
