Bindhof

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neuhäuser Bindhof is a former Zwiefalter monastery courtyard in the center of Neuhausen, a district of the Baden-Württemberg city of Metzingen at the foot of the Swabian Alb. The building complex from the early 16th century is a monument and has been used as a village community center since 2003.

description

The right-angled group of buildings between the old town hall and the evangelical community center was built from 1531 as a nursing home for the Zwiefalten monastery and originally consisted of a vaulted cellar, a barn above it and an administrator's house to the north. The oak trunks built into the barn were dendrochronologically examined and therefore felled in the winter of 1531/32. The administrator's house received an extension in 1771, and residential and economic buildings were added to the west gable of the barn in 1716 and 1823, two-storey half-timbered buildings with a solid ground floor and a crooked hip roof.

use

The Bindhof was used to store the donations of the villagers to the Zwiefalten monastery , in old descriptions it is also called "Klosterküferei". In the 18th century this original use was abandoned, the buildings came into private ownership and were converted accordingly or supplemented by extensions. In the 1990s, the city of Metzingen was able to acquire the buildings used for agriculture by several owners and accommodate them in the state renovation program. The former Zwiefalter monastery courtyard was converted into a village community center between 2001 and 2003 and was inaugurated at the end of May 2003. Since then, exhibitions, citizens' meetings and concerts have taken place there, and the Bindhof is used by various Neuhausen associations and for private festivals. The Neuhausen branch of the city library is also located there, and the glove-makers' room is a reminder of a very important trade for Neuhausen.

Those interested in architectural history can visit the Bindhof on the second Sunday in September, the day of the open monument, and be guided through the premises.
