Bio-layer interferometry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bio-layer interferometry measures the binding of molecules to each other on the basis of the change in refractive index upon binding. It is a labelless method for determining protein-protein interactions .

principle

Bio-Layer interferometry measures the refractive index before and after molecules bind to molecules that have previously been coated on a surface. The bond increases the layer thickness on the surface, which changes the refractive index. The method, like surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy , requires comparatively high concentrations of the molecules to be examined, but can also be carried out with unpurified samples.
