The Bioparc is a zoo in Valencia , Spain . It is located in the northern part of the city by the Parque de la Cabecera on the edge of the drained river bed of the Turia . The zoo opened on February 27, 2008, replacing the old zoo de Viveros de Valencia .

The zoo area has a total area of ​​around 10 hectares and is home to around 4,000 animals and 250 different species, mainly from Africa . The facility was designed as an interactive zoo (immersion) so that the visitor is part of the zoo and the home of the animals. Different African zones, such as B. the wet and dry savannah , Central African forests or the island of Madagascar were recreated with natural vegetation (e.g. baobab trees ). In close cooperation with EAZA , work is being carried out on the conservation of endangered animal species (e.g. European conservation breeding program ). On January 14, 2013, the first aardvark in Spain was born in Bioparc .
