The Biophysical Society ( Biophysical Society ) is an American scientific society. Its foundation was decided in March 1957 during the first American biophysics conference in Columbus , Ohio and goes back to the initiative of a four-member committee. This was already chosen in April 1956 in Atlantic City at a meeting of interested scientists.

During the first conference, a transitional body was elected which later named Robley C. Williams as the company's first president. Under the chairmanship of Max A. Lauffer , a committee developed a statute, with the adoption of which during the Second Biophysics Conference in 1958 the society was formally founded.

The company is based in Bethesda , Maryland, USA.

activities

The society publishes the scientific journal Biophysical Journal and organizes an annual conference ( Biophysical Society's Annual Meeting ) which, according to its own information, is the world's largest meeting of biophysicists with around 6,000 participants. The society awards a series of science and sponsorship prizes and grants every year.
