The biotope lake (sometimes simply as a pond or duck pond called) is an artificial Stretch in Heiden in Münsterland .
Geography and surroundings
The lake is located in the south of the Heiden settlement area and is part of the community's sports and leisure center. The lake is fed from a side basin from the south.
There are paths around the lake and a park landscape known as a biotope . To the west of the body of water is the excavation dump of the quarry pond, which has been planted with trees. Because of the one-sided wide slope, which is used as a descent when there is snow, the hill is also popularly known as the toboggan hill . In the north of the lake is the festival meadow for the Schützenfest. To the east are the outdoor swimming pool, the Heimathaus and the Westmünsterlandhalle , a multi-purpose hall. There are also several sports facilities in the southeast. To the west of the biotope lake is the former hospital and today's retirement center St. Josef and the rectory of the Catholic St. George community.
history
The leisure center was built in the early 1990s as an extension of the existing outdoor pool. The lake was excavated on a former wasteland. The secondary feeding basin was only superficially connected to the lake in 2010.
