Bir al-Ghanam ( Arabic بئر الغنم) (also: Bi'r al-Ganam , Bi'r al-Ganam ) is a small town in the municipality of al-Jabal al-Gharbi in Libya .

The place had probably around 3,500 inhabitants at the beginning of 2010. It is located about 90 km southwest of Tripoli and about 40 km north of Yafran .

The place is strategically important because it is on an important access road to Tripoli.

history

The city came into the hands of anti-Gaddafi troops for the first time on June 27, 2011 during the civil war in Libya in 2011 . The rebels captured the place on August 6, but had to leave the next day. On August 8, the place was again under the control of the insurgents after heavy fighting the day before.
