Birgit Meitner

Birgit Meitner (born September 14, 1977 ) is a German disabled athlete .

Life

Birgit Meitner is a wheelchair user due to an incomplete paraplegic syndrome .

Despite this handicap, she chose basketball as her sport . She became German champion and national player with her club . In this capacity, she participated in a total of four Paralympic Games in part

At the 2008 Paralympic Summer Games, she lost to the German Olympic basketball team in the final of the USA team and was a silver medalist. The German team also lost the game of revenge for the World Cup against the USA in 2010 and thus became runner-up.

For winning the silver medal in 2008, its Federal President Horst Köhler awarded the silver laurel leaf on November 20, 2008 .
