Bischoff - a career is a novel by the German writer Theodor Schübel , published in 1987 .

The young, ambitious industrial clerk Bischoff successfully reaches the upper management level . In the following years his profession has absolute priority in his life planning. Years alternate with family problems, assimilation challenges within the new social elite , which initially reject the climber, internal company confrontations and general frustrations . When he finally reached the top position that his company was striving for, he did not react euphorically as expected , but rather with sober serenity.

Before starting his writing career, Thomas Schübel himself worked in the management level of a large company, so that he was familiar with the internal mechanisms. The theme of the novel fitted into the social climate of the Kohl era .
