Bismarck Tower (Wiesbaden)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bismarck Tower in Wiesbaden was one of around 240 monuments originally erected in honor of Otto von Bismarck .

The Wiesbaden tower was the highest ever built with a height of 50 m. The wooden tower was built in 1910 near the Wartturm on Bierstadter Höhe and was initially only intended to be a temporary solution that was later to be replaced by a massive Bismarckian column. However, this project did not materialize due to insufficient donations. In 1916 the tower, which was popularly known as the "Wiesbaden Eiffel Tower ", was closed as a lookout tower and henceforth used as a military observation post. In 1918, just eight years after its construction, it was demolished due to a lack of stability.
