Black Buttes over the Coleman Glacier

The extinct and eroded stratovolcano Black Buttes (means something like black dome ) is part of the cascade chain on the west coast of North America and is located in the north of the US state Washington . At Colfax Peak it reaches a height of 2877 m.

Its last eruption should have been between 500,000 and 300,000 years ago. The approximately 30,000 year old Mount Baker volcano sits on the flank of the Black Butte.

There are other volcanoes in the United States called Black Butte , one in Oregon and one in California .
