WBPU-FM Black Power 96.3 We got the Power! is a radio station by and for the African American Community in St. Petersburg, Florida . It is operated by the NGO African People's Education and Defense Fund . The aim of Black Power 96.3 is to empower African American to demand their rights in all areas of life and to enforce social equality. The broadcast is on VHF 96.3 MHz.
Black Power 96.3's programming consists of locally produced music, news from the neighborhood as well as from the Caribbean, Africa and the world. Musically, the focus is on conscious hip-hop , old-school R&B and international African and Caribbean music. The weekly shows Good Morning Africa !, No Class , St. Pete Heat , Drive Time , On the Beat St. Pete , The Porch and Sister Hughes Total Praise .
In the St. Petersburg community, 70 percent of the people live below the poverty line. Black Power 96.3 wants to be an authentic voice in the US media market, which is dominated by the big media groups like Comcast , News Corp , Disney , Viacom , Time Warner and CBS and radio giants like iHeart Media .
