Schallenburg

The Schallenburg is an Outbound castle in the district town of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Euskirchen family was first mentioned in 1345 . Probably the aristocratic seat already existed at this time. In 1385 Werner von Vlatten is named as the owner of the manor . A little later the knight's seat was fortified and then called a castle. As such, it was first mentioned in 1531. It was named Bleiversburg after the owners at the time . From 1617 it was called Schallenburg . This name is also derived from the owner family, namely the Schall von Bell family .

In the town fire of 1625, many of the buildings in the castle complex were destroyed. The reconstruction is only carried out as a three-wing courtyard with trenches .

During the Second World War , the remains of the castle were completely lost.
