Songs

Single blond

The single of the same name from the album stayed at number 1 in the Austrian charts for seven weeks in 1997. The song is about the actually attractive Adele, who has her brunette hair dyed blonde in order to finally look striking and because blondes find it a lot easier. In the chorus, this desire for blonde hair is exaggerated and portrayed as megalomaniac.

"She wanted blond as a roll be
Blonde, blonder than the sunshine
Blonde, blond as a wheat field
Because blondes easier much

Blond as a roll be
Blonde, blonder than the sunshine
Blonde, blond like a bale of straw
For blondes says to do, Men glad!"

- Rainhard Fendrich : Refrain of the lyrics blond

At the end of the song, however, the dizziness is noticed and Adele realizes how stupid she has been. The first (and fifth) lines of the chorus after the third stanza read differently “(I'm just) blonde, too blonde to be true”, where the hair color appears ambiguously in the meaning “stupid”, which underlines Adele's insight.

Other songs

The other songs are thematically themed as well. So the song Easy Rider is about the love of chopper motorcycles , the song Paranoia about a strong anxiety disorder of everything that happens outside, or the song Jerusalem about the distrust of the Christian, but also the other religions. The eleventh song on the album, Rolf plays golf , is a kind of masculine contrast to the song Blond . The golfer Rolf said he had to prove himself and be the best of the best in order to stand out as a man - similar to how Adele believes she should be straw blond to be noticed as a woman - but in the end both fail because of their overzealousness.
