Blood on the Risers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blood on the Risers or Blood upon the Risers is a widely known traditional military song used by American parachutists during World War II . The melody was taken from " The Battle Hymn of the Republic ".

A jumper, the white pull cord is clearly visible

The lyrics are about a parachutist in the military, whose winding cord is not hooked when he jumps out of the plane. Without this pull-up line, the main parachute will not open. When he pulls the reserve parachute, it tangles first with his feet and then with his whole body. In the end, he falls to his death and hits the ground hard.
