A floor image is an image that is created by changing the structure of the floor and is often only recognizable from a great height. There are several ways to create floor images:

  • Painting the vegetation. Application for creating lines on sports fields
  • Different fertilization of a meadow area. The fertilized grass appears darker than the non-fertilized
  • Turning over / kinking of taller plants: man-made crop circle
  • Targeted plowing or application of substances that appear different from the soil
  • Digging trenches or building walls
  • Removing a covering layer of soil so that a different color becomes visible as on White Horse Hill : Chalk under the removed layer of lawn
  • Sow vegetation in different colors
  • For snow surfaces: targeted clearing or pouring of the snow

Ground images as geoglyph were once created as ritual objects, like the lines of Nazca .
