The Bogdo Baskunchak Nature Reserve ( Russian Богдинско-Баскунчакский заповедник , Bogdinsko-Baskuntschakski sapowednik ) is a protected area near the Baskunchak Lake in southwest Russia on the border with Kazakhstan . The reserve covers 185 square kilometers of semi-desert and arid steppe areas. A characteristic feature of the landscape is, besides the lake, which is the largest salt lake in Russia, the 200 m high hill Bolshoye Bogdo .

Large herds of saiga antelopes cross the protected area on their migrations and are hunted by wolves. Further animal species are the young cranes , golden eagles, steppe eagles, red foxes, steppe foxes and golden jackals. Sometimes even moose and deer from the wetlands of the Volga invade the reserve.
