Bogomil (Bogomils)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bogomil or Bogumil (lived in the 10th century) was probably the founder of the religious movement of the Bogomils in Bulgaria .

He was mentioned in a pamphlet against the Bogomils from the 10th century. There a Jeremiah was referred to as the "son of Bogomil". Bogomil is said to have worked during the reign of the Bulgarian Tsar Peter I , i.e. between 927 and 969.

In a synodicon of the Bulgarian Church in the 13th century, a Michail was named as a disciple of Bogomil. There are no other mentions of Bogomil, although the Bogomil movement was widespread. Therefore it is uncertain whether Bogomil existed as a person.
