Bogumił of Gniezno (Blessed)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blessed Bogumił

Bogumił was Archbishop of Gniezno probably in the 12th century. His identity is unclear. He is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church . His feast day is June 10th .

Life

He was mentioned only once in a document dated June 29, 1232, in which it is reported that he once handed over the village of Dobrów in Greater Poland to the Cistercian order . No other contemporary information about him has come down to us. In the 16th century a saint's life appeared about him.

It is completely unclear when he lived and whether and when he was Archbishop of Gniezno. He is probably not identical to Archbishop Bogumił of Gniezno from the 11th century, as there were no Cistercian monasteries in Poland at that time. Mostly it is assumed that he was archbishop from 1167 to 1172, since no official is known for this time. It is unsafe.

In 1925 he was beatified. Bogumił is the patron saint of the Archdiocese of Gniezno .
