Bolívar (cigar)
The Bolívar brand cigars are among the strongest among the Havanas . The Bolívar develops an intense aroma and is therefore only suitable for the experienced smoker. The dark wrapper is typical of the Bolívar .
history
In 1901 the Bolívar was introduced to the market by the Havana-based company José F. Rocha . In the fifties of the 19th century, the brothers Rafael and Ramón Cifuentes took over the production. Among them, the brand became known outside of Cuba . After the Cuban Revolution , the Cifuentes family fled to the Dominican Republic , production in Cuba was nationalized and taken over by Habanos SA . The Cifuentes family resumed their cigar production in Dominican exile and have been producing cigars with the brand names Bolívar and Partagás for the US market ever since. Only Cuban bolívar cigars are available in Germany.
Manufacturing
Today the cigars are produced exclusively in the “Partagás” factory. Until 2003 they were also produced in the “La Corona” factory. This was closed due to the poor structural condition. Today all bolívar formats are made entirely by hand.
Origin of name
The name recalls the leader of the Latin American independence movement, Simón Bolívar . His portrait is shown on the bandages and vistas of the cigar boxes of this brand.
