Bombertrench

The US model "MA-2", designated with the term Bombertrench , is a jacket designed exclusively for military use. It is a hybrid of the conventional "MA-1" flight jacket - also known as a bomber jacket - and the classic trench coat.

While the " bomber jacket " was designed as a special jacket for combat aircraft crews, the " trench coat " was used by the ground troops as a special coat during combat operations - especially in the trenches.

The "MA-2" model should lead to a standardization and optimization of military clothing. Commissioned by the US government in February 1934, production was stopped again in May. On the one hand, this was due to the refusal of the soldiers, for whom the jacket seemed too impractical and they continued to use the tried and tested models. On the other hand, there were protests by the squadron because the standardization of clothing meant that it was no longer immediately apparent whether the soldier was a trained fighter pilot or just a simple infantry recruit .
