Bondern

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bonder is a process for the surface treatment of metal surfaces and for the production of a conversion layer by phosphating. It serves to protect against corrosion . In further processing steps such as deep drawing, the phosphating produced serves as a sliding layer.

Bonder was developed for military use, so the round blanks for the production of bullet cases and grenade bodies are bonded in order to be able to achieve a better quality (lower wall thickness, less crack formation) during the subsequent drawing. If necessary, work steps to achieve the desired final shape can be saved.

The technology has now transformed and is now mainly used for sheet metal for vehicle construction. Here, too, bonded sheets are preferred because of their better formability. The bonded sheets are now being replaced by galvanized sheets, which show a similar behavior in cold forming and have even better protection against corrosion, but can only be connected with special welding techniques.
