Bonn Challenge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bonn Challenge (too German about Bonner challenge ) is a global project to restore deforested and eroded surfaces.

The aim is to renature 150 million hectares by 2020 and 350 million hectares by 2030. The host and initiator were Germany and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) . The initiative was started in Bonn on September 2, 2011 in cooperation with the Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration . By 2013, over 20 million hectares of land had been pledged for restoration measures in countries such as Brazil , Costa Rica , El Salvador , Rwanda and the United States . South Korea , Costa Rica, China , Rwanda and Brazil have launched successful landscape rehabilitation programs. The IUCN estimates that meeting the Bonn Challenge goals would generate approximately $ 84 billion in net benefits annually, and that these could positively impact income opportunities for rural communities. It is also estimated that an 11-17% reduction in the current carbon dioxide emissions gap can be achieved.
