Boof

"Powerstroke" shortly before the "Boofen".

The boof or the boofen is a technique from canoeing . The kayak is lifted out of the water using a “Powerstroke”, also known as a “Boofschlag”. This technique is mainly used for steps or smaller waterfalls . The aim of boofing is to land as flat as possible in the water and accordingly to avoid deep immersion. This prevents the kayak from touching the bottom and changing the direction of travel due to the water. The technique is considered one of the most difficult techniques in canoeing and white water sports and requires a lot of practice.
