Borradaile Island is a small island in the Antarctic Somow Sea . It belongs to the northern group of the Balleny Islands , which are about 300 kilometers from the north coast of Victoria Land in East Antarctica .

The 90% ice-covered island with an area of 3.5 km² is located around 8 km southeast of Young Island .
history
Borradaile Island was discovered in February 1839 by John Balleny , who named it after the merchant William Borradaile (1787-1844). He was one of the shareholders of the British whaling company Enderby Brothers , which financed Ballallen's expedition of 1838/39.
Others
An emergency shelter, the so-called "Swan Base", was built on the uninhabited island.
