Bounty Bob Strikes Back! is a jump 'n' run that was first published in 1984 by Big Five Software for the Atari 800 as the successor to the game Miner 2049er ( Micro Fun , 1982).

Gameplay

The aim of the game is to use the “Bounty Bob” character to walk through a scaffolding in 25 individual levels, thereby completely coloring the scaffolding floor. There are various obstacles, such as vacuum cleaners, slides, cannons and acid rain. As opponents there are 'bad-tempered' mutated monsters who walk the scaffolding on fixed tracks, as well as the final boss Yukon Yohan. There is no scrolling of the screen (single-screen play).

In the course of the game there are ladders ( genre Platforms'n Ladders), tubes, transporters and elevators, which you can use to reach the hard-to-reach areas of the scaffolding. The control of the character is relatively difficult: In contrast to the predecessor Miner 2049er, Bounty Bob does not have a constant jump distance, but the player has to decide during the jump how far it should be. By collecting stylized everyday objects (umbrellas, telephones, irons, watering cans, ...) the opponents become 'friendly' for a short time and can therefore be disposed of safely. Otherwise you lose a game life if you touch it or fall from a great height. There is also a time limit. The game is equipped with numerous setting options, such as cheats and hidden messages.

graphic

The graphics compared to the previous version have been significantly improved for the conditions at the time. The cover picture consists of well-animated birds, the game itself is more colorful. The music share is relatively low.

technology

The game managed with 16 kb of RAM as it had to fit into a ROM module of the Atari 800.

emulation

One of the authors has a website that has all the details on how the game was made and an emulator .
