Brothers and Friends is the title of a 1978 novel by the children's author Klaus Kordon . It is a partial novel from Frank look in the air . The novel is set in East Berlin of the postwar period .

Seven-year-old Frank grows up with his mother, big brother Burkhard and an aunt in the family restaurant. His father died in the war. Burkhard, Frank's great role model, is well on the way to becoming a professional footballer. Frank's mother wants to get married for the third time. But the stepfather doesn't get along with the children and soon everyone realizes that he's only after the family business. Burkhard therefore rebels against his new stepfather.

Burkhard is discovered by a youth coach who then wants to come to one of Burkhard's football games. But already on the way to the game Burkhard has a bad feeling, which he attributes to hard peas at school. The game goes well and the coach wants to include Burkhard and his friend in the Hertha BSC team , but then Burkhard is hit in the stomach by a ball. He collapses and is rushed to a hospital, where it is found that his stomach has burst. He eventually dies of blood poisoning.

Frank would like to continue his brother's work and also starts playing soccer. He is supported by Burkhard's friend Hotte.
