BranchCache

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microsoft BranchCache is a technology (feature) for optimizing the transmission of content over Wide Area Networks (WAN) (see WAN optimization ), which was first implemented in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 . It allows content from file, remote and Web servers on a WAN on local workstations to (clients) and servers cache . This can reduce network traffic and increase the speed of access to content.

Requirements for using BranchCache:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows 7 Enterprise
  • Windows 7 Ultimate
  • Windows 8 Enterprise

Microsoft BranchCache supports two types (modes) of caching. In Hosted ( Hosted ) CacheMode the data from a central server in LAN managed while in Distributed (Distributed) CacheMode workstations is in the form of a peer-to-peer accept -network itself. Compared to Distributed Cache , Hosted Cache mode provides higher cache availability because the content is available even if the client that originally requested the data is offline. In addition, the hosted cache works across subnets and reduces multicast data traffic in the local network.

Features and benefits

  • Support of commonly used protocols such as HTTP , HTTPS , SMB , signed SMB and BITS
  • Provides compatibility with end-to-end security protocols such as SSL (TLS) and IPsec
  • Supports end-to-end encryption between clients and servers
  • Optimizes the flow of traffic between Windows clients and servers
  • Remains transparent to the user
  • Encrypts cached content
  • It supports IPv4 and IPv6
