The Brasher doubloon is an American gold coin worth one doubloon or two escudos , with a weight of 6.77 g and a gold content of 22 carats or a fineness of 916/1000. There are only a few copies and the exact edition of the collector's coin is not known. It was struck in New York in 1787 and marked with Ephraim Brasher's signature . Brasher was a friend of George Washington , so it stands to reason that it was a tribute to the young nation. So far only 7 copies known, most of them in public collections. In 2018, a Brasher doubloon was able to achieve a price of over 7 million dollars.
